I went to the gym for my Silver Sneakers class this morning and someone I have know for a number of years asked me if I wanted to go on a bus trip tomorrow to see the 9/11 Memorial in NYC. I originally said no and she explained how she had bought 2 tickets for her and her husband but now her husband can't go. She is trying to get her son to go with her but he hasn't answered any of her calls. So if she can't get anyone else, her son, to go with her she will call me about 5:00 PM and I will be going. I honestly hope her son can't go but I also wish her son would go with her. I want to go and am really excited about the prospect.

How COOL is that!!! I LOVE it! I'd like to say have a good time, but I know for me it would be very emotional. But it is a great opportunity and I am glad you are going. :)

Iris,

How was this experience? I'm not sure I could go to this memorial without breaking down.

Sarah, it was very moving. There are only 2 memorials I have ever been to that I actually cried. One was the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC and the other was the 9.11 Memorial. When I saw the white rose in the crack at one of the names I cried.
Well worth seeing though and I would love to go back with Bob.

I know I would have cried, Iris.

Just seeing the images on TV makes me think of the families who lost so much.

I found the war memorials like the ones in Washington, DC and especially standing over the USS Arizona in Pearl Harbor to be very moving, too.

My daughter, who was in the Navy at the time, and I went several years ago when they were having their opening ceremonies. We joined up with other Navy moms, one who had lost her son in the 9/11 attacks, and went to see his memorial. Very moving.
