I think the pictures are painted on then after you stitch I guess you wash it and it looks okay.

I would think it is very like needlepoint canvas. You can buy the cheap kits where the design is stamped on and therefore the different colours don't line up with the canvas threads. You may get two different colours crossing one thread and you decide which colour you want to use for that stitch. The expensive (really expensive) canvases are painted on and done so that each thread is the one colour it's suppose to be for the design. It did say in the video that the background colour does not wash out while the design colours do.

I thought it was something different that might be easy to follow but it is expensive.
